CUPS stands for "Common Unix Printing System". It's a framework
for driving printers and spooling print jobs that has been adopted by all
the major Linux distribution over the past few years.

For the old lpr (line printer) and LPRng (lpr next generation) spoolers,
the lprm command would've worked - after finding out the job id by using
lpq.
