1237d00ded21 c_echo Hello Roger - --8<--cut RS> Do you really want Microsoft to get into the Linux RS> business? I don't! They would only make a mess out of what RS> is (or once was) a really exciting movement in software, RS> and a valid alternative to the pricey *NIX's like Sun and RS> IBM. The above paragraph just triggered a 'realization' for me. I've been thinking for many years that the angst between Linux users and Microsoft was misplaced but couldn't quite clarify why I felt that way. I realize now that, as you have said, it was the high prices from anyone/everyone connected with Unix that frustrated me for years and my original interest in Minix and Linux was that they had circumvented _those_ companies. Microsoft had/has nothing to do with how I felt nor how I feel today about the greed of companies who sold Unix. SCO's latest money grabbing scheme is typical of how all of them behaved at one time. They are the ones Linux users should be annoyed with, not Microsoft. Microsoft did release Xenix AMOF through companies such as Radio Shack at a much lower price than any Unix I was aware of at the time. In reality it can be said that Microsoft _tried_ to bring *nix to the desktop long before Tannenbaum or Torvalds. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
