I don't know the chipset, however I recently tested an external Modem
Blaster 28.8. It consistently connected at max speed (28.8) with a few
percent of connects at 26.3 and 24 kbps. Once connected it was rock solid
with excellent throughput and no drop outs. Biggest (only???) problem was
that it did not detect busy :-(
