Hello Dan! 19 Aug 09 01:48, you wrote to me: RC>>> You will need a 64 bit OS if you want to be able to use all of RC>>> your 4gb or more of RAM. It is a law of physics, not a Bill RC>>> Gates fantasy. DC>> Linux does well with it. RC>> Notice how I said "You will need a 64 bit OS"???? I did not RC>> specify Windows.. I've been reading FIDO since I owned an 8088 DC> system with Tandy DOS on it. Does Vista make it any better? Hell, DC> no. It makes it HARDER! First off, todays computers, they are making them faster and capacity fatter because they can, you no longer can walk into any/many retailers and find hard drives that are under 250gb much less with a PATA interface, the majority of processors in the computer offerings are multi-core and 4gb or more is becoming the norm, not the exception. I find it unlikely that Fidonet is all that you use a computer for and for your DOS patchwork quilt setup, yes Vista will make it harder, but there are plenty of apps in the console that continue to work fine if you could ever muscle the courage to think past 16 bit. All I said to you was that you were doing yourself an injustice if you took a 4gb+ equipped machine that had 64 bit OS on it and rolled it back to 32 bit OS. and before you go saying I drunk the M$ kooliad, 2 of my 3 boxes are Linux. RC>> No one in this echo is using in the home environ IBM mainframe DC> The point has flown completely over your head. Your much happier to DC> re-invent the wheel because Billy and company want you to. Technology often tops out and 16 bit is no longer the pinnacle. == Ross Fidonet Feeds Or Fidonet In Your Newsreader: http://www.easternstar.info E-mail: ross(at)cassell(dot)us | Blogs/Other Places: http://links.cassell.us --- GoldED+/LNX 1.1.5-b20060121* Origin: The Eastern Star - [Mail Hub] - Spartanburg, SC USA (1:123/500) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/200 331 14/250 18/200 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 SEEN-BY: 140/1 222/2 226/0 236/150 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 SEEN-BY: 261/1406 1410 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 396/45 633/104 260 267 SEEN-BY: 633/285 690/682 734 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2320/100 5030/1256 @PATH: 123/500 261/38 633/260 267 |
