I rounded up some additional information, including the prosecutors Letter to 
the Editor, and some comments pulled from the 5-page report said to have been 
written by three US Supreme Court Justices.
I think it can be fairly said that O'dell was no angel before his being found 
guilty. Indeed, part of his alibi was that he'd been involved in an unrelated 
bar fight.  He is also good at gathering publicity for himself, and did make 
some _very unusual_ requests of the Governor.
The prosecutors contentions are strong, however the newspapers claim that his 
statements are contradicted by the court documents.  (It strains credulity to 
think that these small newspapers have a hidden agenda in wanting to free a 
guilty party).
If he is actually guilty, the issue of the death penalty aside, let him pay. 
That said, there would appear to be genuine questions of fact at issue.  I 
encourage you to carefully review the following messages prior to making any 
desicions.
