They had Venturer Berets?  
I've seen the old Venturer uniform from time to time (and I think the
tie idea is silly.. but that could be just me; not a tie person.)  I
never saw a beret to go with it though.  What colour was it?
One of the 'problems' people had with the old uniform was that there
were too many options available.. something to keep in mind.
