Hey Carol! Since way back then, someone came out with a Opensource version of VMS for PC's. Perhaps that is what you're thinking about? Not sure about the endianess of that. I almost downloaded it but then thought better about it. Linux keeps me occupied enough. MK>>then it is for most. Sort of, but only because I had to figure out VAX/VMS more or less on my own too, so that set the stage for being plopped down behind a Sparc with a pile of manuals and then being totally abandoned. Somewhere in there I picked up on c-shell which led me to c and the rest was history. After the initial panic wore off I honestly started to enjoy it. Those huge honkin' 21" monitors certainly didn't hurt my feelings any especially after playing with those eye-bleeding green/yellow screens on those dumb terminals for so long. So like I said; VAX/VMS beforehand helped ease the pain of learning Unix on ye ol' Sparcs. Unfortunetly it wasn't long after that when DOS entered my life and totally screwed me up. Fortunetly it wasn't too long before I discovered Slackware and got back ontrack. That is my story and I am sticking to it. --- Msged/LNX 6.1.2* Origin: The Pointy Stick Society XV - Linux Point (1:261/38.9) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 261/38 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
