Jeff:

8" f/6 is a nice sized scope. Good choice.

Not recommended to test so soon, but I never resist a few tests in process.

Boring? This is the reason to make and use a machine. Check out our club
site to see this rig http://clary.gwi.net/cmas/.

I play guitar while polishing or clean up the house, using a timer to get
me back into the room at intervals to check and add mud.

I still haven't got my 8in f/6 pyrex mirror fully polished out yet, but it
is polished enough that yesterday I threw it in Cary's robo-focoult tester
and we took a look at it. (Thanks to James Lerch for the concept and code
and to Cary for his wonderful implementation!)

In just under 15 minutes, we had finished two five-zone tests and it
appears that I'm in good shape. The mirror has a slight central plateau
but no TDE and tests out at 1/3.67 wavefront already.

It's been a few months since I've done much ATM work, but seeing how close
I am to finishing and getting the glass for my next two projects has made
me eager to get going again! (Last weekend Cary helped me cast a Hydrocal
tool for my 16in 5/f pregenerated blank and this week I started at 120grit
on my 8in f/6 binocular mirrors.)

If only polishing wasn't so boring!
