You need to use a null modem cable/adapter. It's been a while since
I had reason to wire one, but it's a matter of having some crossed,
such as send data at one end to receive data at the other end. I
think it'd be:
With DB-25 connectors:
TD (2) - RD (3)
RTS (4) - CTS (5)
DSR (6) - DTR (20)
GND (7) - GND (7)
With DB-9 connectors:
TD (3) - RD (2)
RTS (7) - CTS (8)
DSR (6) - DTR (4)
GND (5) - GND (5)

Use any comm program (but, this being the Telix echo, you're expected
to be using Telix at one end). The connection's instantaneous once
the software's loaded and the appropriate COM port selected. Set the
local echo and add line feeds ON at both end if you want to test the
connection by typing something (same as you would if making a direct
modem connection to a friend).
