That meakes me leary as well. That's why I was alittle leary of the cup
hook thing as well.

I have a newer brother, and an older Kenmore. I was having terrible
problems with the Kenmore's tension and thee bobbin/underside jamming up, and
had just gotten a bonus at work, so my husband told me to go get a new
machine!

Now some miracle happened and the Kenmore works wonderful again! I much
prefer the Kenmore for more heavy duty projects, (and buttonholes)
