Hello Dan! 21 Aug 09 04:02, you wrote to me: DC>> You are still under the impression that the average user needs DC>> that kind of computing power. RC>> Whoa Nellie, you are under the impression that people dont?? DC> Yeah, Nellie, slow down. Computer asytems are be driven by gamers. No, that is your misnomer.. I deal with the public and I am selling tech to the public and it is not in a Best Buy environment, I typically sell to students and businesses. People also use their systems to deal with video, or as a DVR in conjunction with their HDTV. Encoding Videos is a processor intensive task, others are into mastering music or doing other tasks that are more suited to todays machines.. Businesses prefer systems that contain hdd space suitable to store their documents and information, they want systems that can handle the load along with generous amounts of RAM to accomodate several applications open at once. RC>> You cant make that assumption based on your own experiences and RC>> usages. (Ergo, whats good enough for moi is good enough for RC>> everyone) DC> Yet, you make yours based on yours. Not at all, you arent in touch with the public as I am, I merely tell you what they come in wanting. If there was not a want, the tech companies would not be enabling. Long gone are the days of the computer geek whom fondly remembers DOS, the xt/at class machines, the Commodore Vic20/64/128, much less the Altair or early Macs. I see people, even in the middle age to retiree age groups just now buying their very first computer(s). I see retiree's coming in whereas one spouse wont touch one, but the other will. I always tell the customer that when they say they are only wanting a system to surf internet, do email and a little word processing that they dont need a backhoe to do a potted plant. I however caution them that they should be sure they are going to adhere to that usage if they want a lesser machine, that should they decide to take on other hobbies, such as video, they might regret it later. Other customers come in, to replace a 10 - 15 year old machine that has finally croaked or they discovered that they can no longer do much with Windows 95-ME. Some of these customers discovered that 64 megs of RAM no longer cuts it. I have had many come in having a working machine of that era, but needing to add a printer or replace one and not being able to find printers that work with no longer supported OSes and hardware... (Yes the Parallel Port is deprecated) People shouldnt be using Win95-ME on the Internet anyway unless they are running said OS in a Virtual Machine. == Ross Fidonet Feeds Or Fidonet In Your Newsreader: http://www.easternstar.info E-mail: ross(at)cassell(dot)us | Blogs/Other Places: http://links.cassell.us --- GoldED+/LNX 1.1.5-b20060121* Origin: The Eastern Star - [Mail Hub] - Spartanburg, SC USA (1:123/500) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/200 331 14/250 18/200 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 SEEN-BY: 140/1 222/2 226/0 236/150 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 SEEN-BY: 261/1406 1410 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 396/45 633/104 260 267 SEEN-BY: 633/285 690/682 734 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2320/100 5030/1256 @PATH: 123/500 261/38 633/260 267 |
