RS> Tell you what.
RS> Let me waterboard you, you'd be confessing to planning
S> 9-11 in less than an hour.
JF> Same old party line. This assumes the inmate is a moron and will
JF> confess to something that we know he didn't, or couldn't, do:
JF> 'I confess to planting landmines on the moon
JF> to kill future US Astronauts.'
EC> Worse, he STILL doesn't understand that the enhanced
EC> interrogation methods WERE NOT USED FOR CONFESSIONS.
EC> They were used to get information about how to stop
EC> future attacks, not to get confessions about past ones.
EC> We ALREADY KNEW what they had done.
Reports vary. Former FBI agent Ali Soufan, told a Senate Judiciary
subcommittee that the use of tougher interrogation techniques was
"counterproductive". However, former CIA officer, John Kiriakou,
said in 2007 that 35 seconds of waterboarding caused Zubaydah to
reveal key intelligence that allowed the U.S. to prevent several
terrorist attacks.
As I've said all along, no one method is going to produce positive
results all of the time. If they can get info with just an interview,
fine. In the event they can't, they should have the option to take it
to the next level, and only when it's urgent and time is a critical factor.
Now that word is out that we won't even take their blanket away
I am sure the confidence level of terrorists and the risks they will
take is much higher. Thanks guys.
