Both sources concern _early_ Islamic art - up to around the sixteenth
century.  The question is not whether such representations were ever
allowed, but whether they are allowed today or, more pertinently, whether
they are ever seen today as building decorations.

I've been to dozens of mosques in around a dozen Muslim countries and never seen one.
