subject: Writable CD for NT

On 05-13-97, STEVE MULLIN said to JEFF GUERDAT:
SM>I have the HP4020i writable drive and we have in working on a WIN95
SM>machine. Since Easy CD Pro runs on NT, I'm wanting to know if you can
SM>access the drive over a network. I'm wanting to use to cdwriter to
SM>backup my hard drives on my NT servers instead of using tape. Does
SM>anything in the manual for the Easy CD Pro say whether they will work
SM>over a network?
The drive can only be accessed over the network as a CDROM drive. The
software isn't capable of writing from a remote station and for good reason -
the network bandwidth isn't guaranteed to be sufficient to prevent buffer
underruns. You can use it to write CDs of networked files but you'd be
well-advised to NOT write directly to the CD. Use of the ISO image would
prevent network latency to be an issue...
