They are significantly different: there's a lot of behind-the-scenes
differences in memory and speed, but on the stuff that you will have to
deal with, 4.0 handles memo fields, 3.5 does not; 4.0 has windowed
workspaces, 3.5 is full-screen. The personal programmer was entirely
rewritten for 4.0.
If your finances are that tight, I'd wait and hunt for a book specific
to 3.5. Meantime, the manuals that come with 3.5 are pretty good and
will help you get started.
