I had thought that the new 9 speed transmission was "ZF" i.e., Zuffenhausen,
which makes the trannies for Porsche and Mercedes. The earlier Chrysler
trannies were very unreliable. I had a 1999 Grand Cherokee Laredo with an
inline 6 that was awesome but had the transmission light go off one time and
there was indication of metal fragments in the fluid. It cost well over
$650.00 to fix the issue, flush the transmission and replace the sensor.
Luckily, my wife took the car during our divorce and I got the newer Honda
Accord because I needed the reliability to work and pay her bills :O
