| subject: | RE: Re-reexamining Torture ... |
~> Just heard about a eastern right-wing talk radio type volunteered to be ~> water-boarded, convinced that it wasn't torture...and lasted 6 seconds into Yeah, and afterward he said it was a strange feeling having water POURED INTO his MOUTH and NOSE, which indicates that it was not done the way the CIA did it. If he had been forced to stay awake for several days he might have called that "torture" as well. But the European Court of Human Rights has ruled otherwise. "Torture" is a term that has been reserved for "severe pain and suffering." To reduce it to a meaning of "gee that was somewhat unpleasant" makes it meaningless, and insults anyone who has ACTUALLY been tortured. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5a* Origin: FidoTel & QWK on the Web! www.fidotel.com (1:124/311) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/331 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 140/1 226/0 249/303 SEEN-BY: 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 SEEN-BY: 396/45 633/260 267 285 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/100 SEEN-BY: 2320/105 5030/1256 @PATH: 124/311 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
