Replying to a message of Dave Drum to Ross Cassell: RC>> Carter gave us what exactly? DD> Micro management and peanuts. Oh, and Billy Beer. I was at SAC headquarters during Carter's (and Ford's) administration. SAC Headquarters was one of the most heavily guarded buildings I can think of. Anyhow, when Carter visited, unlike *all* of his predecessors, the Secret Service felt it necessary to place its guards at all of the building entrances alongside SAC's Elite Guard and inspect everything coming in to the building. Including lunches. My thought at the time was "He must think he's not among friends." Anyhow, the fallout from this was interesting, because those inspections turned up a LOT of classified information being brought (back) into the building. Instead of disciplining those (mostly officers) for mishandling classified material as required by the pertinent security regulations, SAC's DA (Director of Administration) sent out a general distribution letter reminding folks that they were NOT supposed to be taking classified work home with them. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/331 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 140/1 226/0 249/303 SEEN-BY: 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 SEEN-BY: 396/45 633/260 267 285 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/100 SEEN-BY: 2320/105 5030/1256 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
