The adapter I got was just the size of the two connectors, and didn't seem to 
weigh anything.  Didn't take up much room, either.  Of course, I'm talking 
about attaching to the back of a home scanner running in a '73 Oldsmobile, so 
my idea of "heavy" and "big" might be different than yours.
