Because it refused to pay the per capita charge the Nazis wanted to levy.

I wonder ho wmany people actually knew the  Holocaust was going on at the
time?  And, if they did know, what would they have been ABLE to do about it
over and above the life-or-death effort they were making to defeat the
Germans at the time?

I've never heard anyone say that.  I HAVE said - and I still believe - that
there will be no peace in the Middle East while Israel exists.  You only
have to look at the numbers.  I believe that a careful and controlled
dismantling of the Jewish state and its replacement with a secular state
that confers rights of residency and free worship on everyone - Jew,
Muslim, Christian, etc., while the opportunity remains is the only way
forward.

Otherwise Israel's enemies merely have to wait until the US is emasculated.
Historically, that is at some time inevitable.
