I fixed the "telnet hammering" by installing a firewall that
actually works: pfSense. I have the Country Block package installed and am
blocking 26 countries currently from accessing my system at all. Works
wonderfully and I have very few problems. I have a few small networks that
I've had trouble with blocked manually.

SIO/VMODEM had no problems with handling the traffic though. The board
continuiously ran even with the "hammering".

That's odd that it doesn't do IP logging; VMODEM does that automatically
with the /L switch.
