subject: 33K6 upgrade

TR> Your trusty Spirit Viper V34 modem can now be upgraded from
 TR> a lowly 28.8K (V34/VFC) to the latest and greatest 33.6K
 TR> speed.

TC> Be carefull with this. The viper is a generic rockwell modem. The news I
TC> received from rockwell was that the 33K upgrade was a beta
 TC> release only. I
TC> haven't picked up a copy yet, but should have by the weekend.

Don't worry, still watching and waiting here .. I do get some requests to
advise and in some cases help buy inexpensive but nonetheless reliable
modems; at that price finding and doing up a second hand Viper looks quite
plausible. I've had virtually nothing but trouble free connects to two of
them for ages, and Trev's new one still works fine at V.32bis :)

Anyway, don't Rockwell always burn their latest betas into current silicon? :)

TR> Cost: $25 if you purchased your Viper modem between 31 May
 TR> and 31 July 1996.

TC> This is ok for a new EPROM

TR> $65 if you purchased your Viper modem before 31 May
 TR> 1996.

TC> This is a rip off for a new EPROM :(

$69 sounds more than fair for an EPROM plus CPU plus DSP upgrade to me.
How much were the Microcom V.fc to V.34 upgrades?

Ian
