FA> There is also something about it not being ISO, and i believe
FA> i've heard that certain compilers don't support inline asm. (??)
JG> In-line assembly was one of the very first thing specified in
JG> the original draft of C. It's a vital part of the language and all
JG> compilers must support it. One of C's strongest features is it's
JG> expandability. If the language doesn't have a function you can add
JG> it. K&R recognised right from the start that there are always going
JG> to be many things which just can't be done very well in anything
JG> other than assemler.
It is not part of the ISO C standard. They aren't part of the ANSI C
standard either...
A. APPENDICES
(These appendices are not a part of American National Standard
for Information Systems --- Programming Language C, X3.???-1988.)
These appendices collect information that appears in the
Standard, and are not necessarily complete.
And I bet it isn't in K&R C either. BFN. Paul.
