AC> Thanks for your interest. If MTS.EXE can do it with a lot less than 360
AC> K, I'd wonder why the drawbacks couldn't be corrected, eliminate the
AC> many song files & still use less than 360 K. I've CGA, a nine pin
AC> printer, & I get a nice staff printout with MTS. Do you have addresses
AC> of the firms with the older Shareware programs you know of? Sincerely,
AC> Al (I don't need all the bells & whistles.)
The problem is, for current music composition programs, that they're
all VGA - often text mode 80x50 with custom 512-character font. Most
programs use a spreadsheet-style layout, with columns for simultaneity
and row for timeflow, and can't display staves and such. They have
pretty much all the other features I've listed though. They often
require 286 or 386, or more, for better playback. Scream Tracker and
Impulse Tracker would fit uncompressed on 360k. Fast Tracker wouldn't
at all. They all require sound samples to use as instruments. Actually,
I don't really know what programs can replace your MTS. It's quite a
unique program in the shareware area, despite its age.
I'm more and more thinking about making a tracker like Scream Tracker
but with classical notation features, and eventually printing. But it
won't run on an old computer, especially CGA. Seems like you're stuck
with what you've got.
