well actually the leash law here in Saint Petersburg can be waived if you
can demonstrate the dogs reliably responsive to verbal commands, ' he is'.
an unfortunate incident occurred at this address 2 yrs. ago where the
rather inebriated neighbors called the police and provided a rather creative
report to the police, the result of which was that a less than bright
police officer walked into the situation with the opening remarks to my
significant other, ' where's the gun, i'll shoot the dog'. unfortunately
my significant other is a former marine M.P. as well as a victem of previous
spouse abuse and although 105 lbs. pretty much wiped out the officer.
we take a certain pleasure in stopping by the local child care center and
letting the pit play with the kids, kittens ect. all while off lead and
frequently observed by our local police force. now if we could just get
a leash law passed for the local police officers, now that would really
serve the public. p.s., we don't own a gun, the dog was leaded as i saw
the officers approach and had some trepidation because of the general
perceptions about these animals. i'll take your advise and do what i can
to reach those in authority to set these ordinances. funny no one
ever mentions the ferocousness of the standard poodle, if raised as such,
they have been used by the military for these purposes. i guess it's
easier to blame the animal and feel you've accomplished something than
put the blame where it belongs, irresponsible owners. best regards.
