Hello All!
Was recently reading the April 1996 issue of the braille monitor, and saw
Peggy's article on the state of The National Accreditation council.
One thing alarms and annoys me greatly when reading this article.
For years, the superintendent of the Iowa Braille And Sight Saving School at
Vinton has promised us that Nac is on its way out in Iowa. The school is the
only agency in Iowa that is still accredited by Nac.
For years, I've been hearing him talk a little about it, as well as others
and getting such replies as "We'll take care of that, our accreditation is
about to expire." and other good lines.
I'm beginning to think that they're just lines, and that the Board of Regents
in Iowa will continue to waste a couple thousand dollars a year to feed to
the fat cats in New York who don't care about good services to the blind. Nac
has been proven to be harmful to the blind, yet, we in Iowa get answered with
platitudes and brushed aside whenever the Nac issue comes up with school
officials.
Here's hoping that school Officials from IBSSS will show up at our state
convention, and here's hoping there will be an atmosphere of confrontation
and not cooperation, as the school has been lying to us now for the last 5
years on the Nac issue.
Anybody else have any thoughts?
