Hi Janis!
You having it real hot over there these days too, eh? Thank God all of
our trucks are now enclosed cabs with air conditioning. Wasn't that way
5 years ago. They figured that the heat was good for us while out on
calls. Something to do with greater heat endurance/tolerance during
firefighting.
But with 95% EMS calls, air conditioned firehouse, most EMS scenes are
in air conditioning, and only 2% were fire calls, it didn't make much
sense. With lots of gang violence and guns, the city THEN decided it was
safer being in an enclosed cab with bulletproof protection that would
bring risk management down to a very reasonable level for insurance and
hencefore lower taxes for the city. So new trucks were phased in and
now all 6 stations in Glendale have the new trucks. :-)
