Planning is underway for a 60th Anniversary celebration of the
Randolph-Sheppard Act on June 20, 1996 in Washington, D.C.
Representatives from NCSAB, NFB, RSVA, RSA and others have been meeting for
some time. The general plan is to offer tours of area facilities in the
morning, with an afternoon program titled "Randolph-Sheppard: The Past,
Present and Future". The day would be capped off with a reception key-noted
by the President of the United States, or the Vice-President.
The committee is targeting State Directors, BEP Directors,
Committee of Blind Vendors Chairmen, other blind vendors, Cabinet Officers,
Members of Congress and other dignitaries.
The intent of this message is to alert you to this planning, ask that you
keep that date open for attendance if possible, and notify your Committee
Chairman. The message is also being sent to consumer bulletin boards and
on-line services.
This celebration is contingent on the President or Vice-President attending
the evening reception. If neither can attend, the celebration will not occur.
In that case, some other written announcement or Executive Order supporting
Randolph-Sheppard is expected to be released.
If the planning committee does not have a firm commitment from the White
House by May 20th, the celebration will not occur.
We will let you know soon after May 20th if the celebration is on.
Thank You.
