Back in the sixties United ran a
print media campaign showing a
crowded city freeway at rush
hour with bumper to bumper traffic.
Below that was the same freeway
with only a handfull of cars on
the road, the caption said, "if
motorists were trained like our
pilots all the roads would look
like this.
The message about safety is clear,
the problem is it's still easy for
an idiot to get a hold of a pilot's
certificate in this country. At
least for the private piloting
side of things. We know how an
aircraft will react to almost every
given circumstance and flight
regime. The problem is we keep
reducing the amount of training
required and ignoring the most
obvious problems along the way.
