Did you catch any of the PBS series about the history of television? I
think it's called The History Of Television. 

I caught the first episode, and missed the next one or two, because I
missed the part about it being a multi-part series. The last one I saw, was
about - wait for it - the variety show. Most memorable, of course, was how
Ed Sullivan remained employed. Just uproarious!
