As I had stated before, Holyfield had crossed that bridge LONG before Tyson.

Baloney. What if Tyson had joined the list of boxers that had KILLED their
opponents despite all of those rules meant to *protect* Holyfield? Would
people have been calling for him to be suspended, even though he was within
the rules? By its very nature, boxing is a barbaric activity and for people
to whine about Tyson's actions is hypocritical.
As for the rules *protecting* the opponent, that's laughable. The rules were
meant to make it more *palatable* because the gloves keep the boxers from
looking as brutalized as they would be ala bare knuckles, however, it doesn't
mean that the boxers aren't hurt as badly. A typical boxer sustains as much
punishment in one bout that causes doctors to tell QBs like Steve Young that
they should retire. The effects aren't always immediately noticeable and a
boxer may not shown symptoms until 10-15 years after he's retired, however,
make no mistake, he's been damaged.
Unlike some people, I know what to expect when I see a fight and I'm not
shocked when something happens. I've seen some strange crap as it is and
Tyson's isn't anything that hasn't happened before.
