What really surprised me about the draft was the fact that not only did Shea
Seals drop out of the first round, he dropped out of the draft completely. He
was a victim of people, who for whatever reasons, thought that he had
declined in his senior year. I have news for those people, his numbers were
better as a senior than they were as a junior, when he was such a hot
prospect.
Seals' free throw shooting in the past two years has been terrible and his
3-point shooting has dropped considerably, however, those are easily
correctable problems. You might think that he peaked as a freshman but the
truth is that as a freshman, there were more people to handle the load and
you couldn't crowd him or double team him because someone that could hit the
shot was just a few feet away. While it may seem like he had help last year,
they were a very inconsistent bunch and teams would rather let them beat them
than Seals and he paid the price. I also don't think that Steve Robinson did
him many favors with his offense. I think that Seals should head to Chicago,
where his talents would allow him to fill in at guard and small forward.

While there's not a great number of outstanding free agents out there, there
are plenty of quality free agents that could help several NBA teams. There
are several players that might find themselves in demand this summer (But
they may not necessarily get the big bucks like last year. Some teams are
simply strapped for cash because of their stupidity, i.e. Seattle and
McIlvaine, Houston and Price) and while they may not change teams, they can
seriously alter the division races (Chicago's two prime free agents, Jordan
and Rodman, will alter the NBA championship face if they're not signed).

I have to laugh at the fact that early in the season the questions was "Can
Griffey break Maris' record?" and no one was mentioning McGwire. I think that
part of it had to do with Mark's injuries but the fact is, Griffey's had his
problem in the past couple of years, too. Now that Mark's passed Griffey, I
think he's shown that he's the one that everyone should worry about taking
out Maris (Or even ending the debate about the 154 games).

After watching the WNBA, I'm still convinced that they are the inferior
league in terms of talent. Much has been made about the sloppy play and
they're right, it's a lot sloppier in the WBNA. Heck, the Cleveland team was
held to 44 points; the ABL never had a game go below 50 points.
The ABL is a younger league (average age of 26.1 vs the WNBA's average age of
27.3. 41.7% of the WNBA's players are between 21 and 25 years of age while
55.0% of the ABL's players are between 21 and 25. 28.6% of the WNBA's players
are 30 or older to the ABL's 17.4%) and they've got a lot more of the stars
(8 of 12 of the last Olympic team play in the ABL and more of the best
players from colleges signed with the ABL the past two years).
BTW, for those that are interested, here are the Web Sites for each league:
WNBA (www.wnba.com), ABL (www.ableague.com).
One last thing, the ABL champs got an invite to the White House.
