TC>>advanced degree?
MY> EMT stands for Emergency Medical Technician. I don't know what
MY>levels you have in Germany, so I can't draw any parallels for you.
We have here "Sanitaetshelfer (San-A)", "Sanit„tshelfer (San-B)",
"Rettungshelfer (RH)", "Rettungssanitaeter (RS)" and "Rettungsassistent
(RA)".
I think, "San-B" is the First Responder, "Rettungshelfer" the Basic-EMT,
"Rettungssanit„ter" the Advanced-EMT and "Rettungsassistent" the
Paramedic.
MY>In
MY>Ontario, EMT-B is roughly equivalent to an EMR, Emergency Medical
MY>Responder, but the requirement up here to work an ambulance service (St.
MY>John doesn't count) is currently an EMCA
In Bremen, the required level of education to work on an ambulance depends
on the kind of ambulance: to be on an ambulance, wich is only used to
transport Patients (e.g. from a retirement-home to Hospital or from a
local hospital to a special hospital) two RS or one RH for driving and one
RS, an "normal" Emergency-Ambulance needs one RS and one RA, on a
"Notarztwagen" (Ambulance with Doctor) there are two RA and one Doc.
MY>Are you considering a career in emergency medicine, or content with St.
MY>John?
In 1999, I have to do, like every male citizen in germany, 10 Month of
millitary duty or 13 Month of community work, and I will try to do my
community work in EMS (but I am not allowed to do it with St.John), but I
don't know, if I'll work after that in EMS as a full-time-job, I suppose I
will carry on with school after that, and stay as a volunteer with
St.John.
MY>I don't know much about St. John in Germany, I wouldn't mind
MY>hearing more.
In germany, we have 4 EMS-Organisation: St.John, Red Cross, Order of Malta
an "Arbeiter Samarieter-Bund". Ambulance-Service is also done by the fire-
brigade and some private Organisations.
St.John is the smallest EMS-Organisation in Germany, we do Ambulance-
Service at only a few places, but mainly EMS at events, like we do in
Bremen (we have only about 30 volunteers in Bremen).
Tell me about St.John in Canada...Is it a big organisation? Are there a
lot of volunteers? What is St.John doing in Ontario? Only EMS?
Ciao,_____
