TC>> What exactly means EMT-Basic degree? Is there also something like an
LP>In the USA you have EMT-Basic, EMT-D (basic who may defibrillate),
LP>EMT-paramedic, just to mention the first three I have in mind.
I think, EMT-Basic is in German "Rettungshelfer", EMT-D
"Rettungssanit„ter" and Paramedic is "Rettungsassistent", but I am not
sure.
TC>> What are you doing in Milan? Also mainly medical service at events?
LP>EMS at events are just a small part of our work.
Here in Germany, volounteers work nearly only in EMS at events, just a
small number of volounteers work in Ambulance service.
TC>> Are there
TC>> many volounterys in EMS in Italy?
LP>Here in Milan we have about 10 EMS volunteer associations, 100-120
LP>volunteers each, not counting Italian Red Cross. We should give to 118 at
LP>least one ambulance each association, and a driver for medical guard,
very
LP>evening and night and on saturdays, sundays and holidays.
In Germany, we have only the Order Of Malta, the Red Cross, the Order Of
St. John and the "Arbeiter Samariter Bund" as EMS-Organisations with
volounteers, EMS is also done by a few private Organisations and by the
fire brigade, but there are AFAIK no volouteers with them.
LP>For every ambulance we need at least 3 people, 1 for medical guard and 1
s
LP>radio/phone operator who talks with 118 headquarter and ambulances.
In Germany, there usualy only 2 People in a Ambulance, one Paramedic and
one EMT, often there is also one EMT or Paramedic in traning, and
sometimes a volounteer with a lower education level (like me) as the 3.
person.
In Germany, we have 3 differnt kind of ambulaces, one wich you maybe call
a BLS-Ambulace ("Krankenwagen"), there are often only two EMS on one
ambulance, ALS-Ambulances ("Rettungswagen") with one EMT and one Paramedic
and the "Notarztwagen", and ALS-Ambulance with one EMT/Paramedic, one
Paramedic and one Doctor.
