From: "Scott Berfield" To: "atmlist" Reply-To: "Scott Berfield" You guys keep this up and I am going to get the silvering bug - just to see if it works. I have poked around and not seen much info on protective coatings - lacquer is mentioned but I haven't seen much from people who have done it - how well does it work? How is it applied? Also, would a mirror cover made of anti-tarnish cloth keep the coating in good shape? My new scope is going to have a lid to keep the mirror clean when not in use. I could see lining that with an anti-tarnish cloth like we keep in the chest with my grandmother's silver. -sb -----Original Message----- From: Bill Kelley [mailto:flex{at}commspeed.net] Sent: Thursday, April 03, 2003 1:52 PM To: Bob May; atmlist Bob, My experience - A silvered mirror kept covered will last for years, the kit from Peacock is cheap ( I'll get about 200 - 5" to 8" done for $200 ) works perfectly and if kept refrigerated lasts for years, no mirror shipping charges or problems, instant gratification- coat it and use it at once, high reflectivity, so easy to do that you can pop on a coat just for a star test, in the ATM spirit where we do things ourselves, etc., It's time for ATMers to revisit silvering!
