From: "Glenn Meadows"
Interesting side note, there was an intriguing show on, I believe History
Channel last night, about use of CO2 to extract shale locked oil deposits.
They showed a plant that used to have an enormous CO2 output, but now had
virtually none, as it was all captured, and piped to a shale oil field,
where it was injected into the ground. There, it combines with the oil,
and "unlocks" it from the rock, and using water injection,
they're able to extract the mixture of oil and C02. They then re-capture
the CO2 and re-inject it yet again. At some point, the CO2 remains locked
in the shale, and it becomes a permanent underground storage area for that
CO2.
Quite amazing. They figure that with this process, they have extended the
life of that one oil field another 10-15 years.
