| subject: | Re: ATM Polishing out astigmatism |
From: "Mel Bartels" To: Cc: "atm" Reply-To: "Mel Bartels" >>> Will the astigmatism ever polish out or do I go back to fine grinding? <<< Yes, given a time period of 'ever', 'stig can be removed, but do you want to wait 'for-ever'? My rule of thumb is to return to a grit size sufficient to lose the amount of 'stig in the amount of glass removed in a wet or two. Usually that means at least 500 grit if not all the way back to 220. If you don't you risk sucking the tool against the non-spherical mirror and deforming the tool, only reducing 'stig, not eliminating it.
