RM> We're just coming off of one of the nastiest winters we've seen in quite RM> a while, snowfall here was about 5.2 meters or 17 feet. PH>I've seen some TV coverage of the massive storms and the disruptions >caused. I'm not sure if we're in 1 in 100 year territory anymore. I think a lot of areas have had record breaking weather, especially this year, but in recent years as well. The 'records' broken where I live were basically minor and inconvenient rather than life-threatening as they were in a lot of other places so I can't complain too much. RM> many as 7 boards at a time. Started into computers in about 1982 RM> and bought my first modem around 1987. PH>My first contact was with a TRS-80, then onto a ZX81 Mine was an Apple II+ Clone that I built myself. Funny the cost of things back then.. we were all making maybe 1/10th the money we are now yet you could spend $400 to buy a floppy drive and $3 each for the disks. You had to be pretty serious about computers to get into them. Not only was it a major job to learn how to run them but a good one would cost almost as much as a cheap new car... PH>First modem was 1200 baud... how sad is that eh? ;-) I got into computers fairly early but I didn't immediately get into modems. My first was a 2400 baud although at that time I was maintaining the computers for the township (municipality, county) and having to deal with their 300 baud modem... B) PH>Not really, lows down to freezing but very rarely into the negatives. It >would normally be something like 3-8 degrees celcius in winter and 12-23 in >summer - on average. Oh.. quite a bit cooler there in summer than I would have guessed. PH>I live in a part of the country that can see snowfall at sea level 1-4 days a >year. It's fun and having the odd day off work because of it keeps us locals >happy. We here get a bit of a laugh when we see some areas further south talking about a city crippled and the schools closed because they got 10 cm of snow.. We hardly blink until we get up over 20 cm.. B) RM> We get a few summer days as high as 35c and a few winter nights closing RM> in on -40c so we learn to adapt.. PH>Wow that's a temp swing I've never experienced. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger ?.. B) Best wishes.. --- * SLMR Rob * If all is not lost then...
