subject: Question for Red Green Fa

MP>A couple of weeks later, after a few reruns, they have started showing
  >episodes from a season that I have not seen before. These shows feature
  >"cartoon-like" opening credits that include a neon sign
which says "The NEW
  >Red Green Show."

MP>I checked a couple of web sites and was only able to determine that the
  >show was also known as "New" sometime during its long run.
I thought there
  >might be some Red Green fans here that would know when those shows
  >originally aired.

Red Green was a spin off from Smith and Smith which ran in Canada
from 1979 to 1985. Red Green was a Character on that variety show
that was hosted by Steve Smith and his wife Morag.
They shut that down in 85 and then I think in 87 brought back
a similar show until about 1990. In 1991 the Red Green show was
launched. I know at one point they had a wife on the show, heavy
set disagreeable blond woman, and when they shifted away from that
(or to that) it may have picked up the "New" title for a while.

Sounds like with the end of the 2005 (15th year) series and episode
number 300 they will be finished. Steve turned 60 that year and
figured it was best to go out on a high note than wait to be cancelled,
which nearly happened a few times when the show's funding from The
Canadian Television Fund was reduced overall, and to his show.
I don't really watch it often enough to know which year was which.
I just turn it on occassionally if there's nothing else on.
It was somewhat funny at first but gets to be a lot of almost the
same thing over and over. I was amazed it lasted as long as it did.
