yes, Cooee is a very poor quality software. I've got Netcomm V8 (supposed to
be a voice capable modem). It only works with Cooee and windows 3.11. I wasn't
able to run it under win 95. My oncomming faxes are scrambled, probably
Cooee has a dud video part (doesn't like my Matrox card). Voice messages
caused the system to hang up too often. Yes, I had an upgrade to version
1.2.1a, still doesn't work under win95. The support from Netcomm is pathetic.
They treat a customer like an idiot who switched a PC for the first time.
They are unable or unwilling to provide all necessary information, you are
on your own. With the dud Cooee I have bought Delrina Commsuite with Talkworks,
which should replace Cooee, but it failed all attempts to run it. Delrina
can not recognize it as a voice capable modem, probably because Netcomm
is using non standard AT commands.
Friend of mine has a newer Netcomm voice modem and problems too. I would
advise you to find a modem which supports a wide range of software, amongst
others Delrina. Symantec has a very good technical support, for example.
As far as I know, Banksia modems can run Delrina software, probably all
American modems too (if they are based on Rockwell chipset). Anyway, before
you buy, ask questions and make sure, you can return a dud modem/software
and get full refund. Take on account a quality of a technical support. 5 years
warranty is useless unless you can set it up in the first place. Run away
from any proprietary systems, software. I tried many comm programms,
Delrina, QModem, Telix, Cooee, and the last one is miles behind. On the other
hand Netcomm modems (16 bit stuff) seems to be a good quality hardware, the
problem lies inside (firmware, ROM, etc). So wrapping it up- ask, whether
Netcomm whatever will run Delrina CommSuite with TalkWorks, if yes, buy. If
not, woill you get refund without Dept. of Consumers Affairs attention?
Regards,

Roman
