-EG> GC> AH - yes - Vin Baker would fit in VERY VERY well. In fact, he
-EG> GC> might be worth the #6 pick,
-EG> We're not talking 6th pick, here. The rumors I've heard
-EG> involve players and a swap of picks (Milwaukee's 10th for
-EG> Boston's two picks). I think that they should forget it and
-EG> take a chance on Baker leaving Milwaukee as a free agent. I
-EG> like Vin, however, he does have some problems that might
-EG> not be good for a young team and it would be better for
-EG> them to NOT give up their future for a player that may or
-EG> may not play every night.
Your rumors would probably have more substance - the papers here,
of course, have to, by necessity act as a house organ of the teams -
to a certain degree. The Boston Globe is notorious for this, having
sat on the 1986 Patriots drug problems - by agreement with the Pats'
management - until after the Super Bowl. They also soft pedaled the
Wade Boggs-Margo Adams fiasco until it became too big of a story to
sit on. The only stories regarding the draft that we've seen is that
the Celtics talked to San Antonio about trading the #3 and #6 for the
#1 and that they have abandoned all hope of getting the Spurs to budge. If
you read between the lines, it looks like Pitino is going
to pass on Mercer. This could be a ruse, or it could be intended to
build morale with who Pitino is gonna be stuck with (Dee Brown, Dana
Barros, and hopefully David Wesley).
They've gotta go after a big man - perhaps San Antonio would entertain a
trade of David Robinson for the picks? Never
was mentioned in the papers here.
