Hello Bill,

I recently made a finderscope out of the lenses
from 8x40 binoculars I had,also used a .965 diagonal, I used the complete
lens cone end and the eyepiece from the binos, the lens con end fits snuggly
into one end of a hard cardboard tube and in the other end I put a fitting
and used the end(about two inches) of the focuser tube with set screw, from
old 60mm telescope.the eyepiece that had the adjustment on the bino was
broke, so I had to have a way of focusing, the reason for the set screw, the
nice part about the .965 diagonal is the eyepiece assembly fit nicely on
top of it so I glued it solid and can use dust caps on both ends.
took it outside one night and set the focus, and it works well. images are
right side up, and the finder is only 7" long, the total focal lenght
is about 8"(200+mm),have not put cross hairs as of yet, want to make a
mount and mount it to the telescope to see if they are needed, if so I
think I can place them in the forward end of the diagonal(if that will
work).

Keep looking up,You just may see something interesting.
