This conclusion does not surprise me, and I predicted it before I heard of
your test results.  The results should not have surprised anyone on this
list.  I have yet to hear of a static (non-flotation) mirror support that
does not stress the mirror.

PLOP will help you determine support point layout and flotation part
dimensions and layouts.  You still need to choose a proper design approach
for your hinges (compliant, etc.)...whether or not you will RTV the mirror
the the cell, or use a sling, cooling arrangement, etc.
