Thanks to all who answered my post.
I guess I was looking for the diffraction ring that wasn't supposed to be
there anyway. This helps a lot, it gives me new confidence that I can make
a mirror this fast.
I find that I can have much more control over the figure using a
subdiameter lap. I have a very smooth surface with very little micro ripple
that is visible to my eyes. The lap is unchanneled with micro facets
pressed in to the lap. I am also using red rouge with VERY SLOW strokes and
I don't allow the lap to come to a stop at the end of the stroke. The lap
has mushroomed out so there are no sharp edges of pitch. I have achieved a
very smooth surface with a subdiameter tool on a small mirror.
A big thank you to all that have helped me get this far.
Dave
