Not going to work at the grunt level,  if upper management took a major cut
and they lowered the price of their products they just might be able to
pull it off getting a firm grip on their finances.

The gov't might have been better off paying the wages of the grunts with
the stipulation that the upper management take a major cut and restructure
in the mean time and if not successful then either declare bankruptcy or
the auto industry become part of a huge government corporation.
