Hi Alex! In Alex Mcconnell's message to Albert Alcoceba on , Alex Mcconnell said: AA>> Common problem with above modem. Not recommended for BBS use. I luckily don't own a Roadster. I own a SmartModem. I provide consultancy support to sysops setting up BBS's amongst other things and it seems that this modem keeps coming up again and again from various sysops who have no end of trouble with it. The symptom the above user reports is common - the modem not seeming to send a RING signal, or at least ont one that is getting to the FOSSIL to the software on the computer. The suggestion you've given elsewhere about ATS0=2 etc is useless when running a BBS. It has to be software that answers the call, not the modem. Otherwise if the BBS were to go off line lots of people would be paying 25c for a non connect. With automated mailers this would be a very expensive error... as mailers may try to connect many times until they are successful while unattended. To use ATS0=2 is sufficient to be considered as "excessively annoying" and sufficient to get the sysop thrown out of mail networks such as fidonet.
