DRIVING WHILE BLACK IN NEW JERSEY
Parody; to tune of Dvorak's "Humoresque"
(c) 1999 The Wizard of Laws
(As performed at the ACLU's Biennial National Convention,
San Diego CA, June 1999)
Never underestimate
The police of the Garden State
On highways are their instincts tried and true.
They need no radar nor to pace
Your speed, they'll only view your face:
If black, you're stopped, if white, they'll let you through.
(CHOR)
You are stoppable, cause is probable
If you fail to pass their simple test.
It's no fallacy, just their policy,
To drive while black could lead to your arrest.
"Where-are-you-going?" they'll ask you
They'll search for drugs, and weapons, too
What white folks don't possess, they think they'll find.
New Jersey profiles we'll attack
To make it safe to drive while black
Let's hire NEW Jersey cops who're colorblind!
