It sounds like in this situation, you need to stay volunteer. Everybody here
knows what the AHA says about early defib. I would expect a paid service to
be able to at least equal the level of care rendered by the local volunteers.
Around here, the volunteer fire service First Responders carry AED's. But
then the E-911 service has all ALS units. Maybe the people running your paid
services need to reconsider their chosen profession. If I started a service
I would place a high priority on AED's, Semi-AEDs, or manual defibs.
I don't know. Maybe I'm not well rooted in the reality of the situation, but
it does seem that if the volunteers can scrape up the equipment, the paid
services should at least match them.
