You would need some very inhomogeneous pitch such that I have never seen or
to use some very coarse abrasive to cause any serious scratches. You can
just about polish glass with 600 grit on a polishing tool. If you are using
plate glass that was not properly bevelled, perhaps you got some small
chips from the edge? I suppose this could happen.
