Kevin,

I have heard that having winsock in more than one directory at a time
can cause problems. I am not sure if you mean you have tried it in one
or both. But just try it in the internet directory on its own as it may fix 
your problems.

This would indicate that it is not a modem problem as such, if you have no 
luck removing the winsock from the windows directory you may want to try
one of the local message bases for melbpc internet queries.
